“Excellence in Action”

Traveling across the state this past weekend, I couldn’t help but notice all the changes that happen this time of year.  Not only is the weather changing, but so are the colors of the leaves, and the clothes people are wearing (time to put the shorts and tank tops away).  Change happens every day, all around us.  We can try to ignore it; pretend it isn’t happening or choose to accept it.  As I get older I have come to the conclusion that if you don’t change with the times, you will be left behind.

This year as we head down the Pathway of Excellence we will be facing many changes in our organization.  One of the first was the criteria for members and chapters to meet in order to achieve the designation as a Member or Chapter of Excellence.  When I first heard about the changes, I admit I was a little resistant, after all I didn’t see anything wrong with the way our organization was, so why mess with a good thing.  I could have resisted the change, but instead I listened to the reasons behind them and did some research on my own.  Now I see that not only are the changes a good thing for IAAP but also were needed to keep us in step with the industries we work for.   There are many things that we can each do to work towards making this change successful, such as attending our local and division meetings, writing an article for the newsletter (if I can do it anyone can ☺), sitting for the CPS and/or CAP exam, and attending conference, seminars and workshops related to your career field.

I see this year as an exciting chance to broaden my mind and step out of my box to become a better me, professionally and personally.  Hopefully you will join me on this journey of change, instead of opting to let it pass you by.

From my desk to yours,

Betsy Resh CPS/CAP
